Product Introduction

Bromacil, with the chemical name 5-bromo-3-sec-butyl-6-methyluracil, has a CAS number of 314-40-9, a molecular formula of C9H13BrN2O2, and a molecular weight of 261.12. The pure product is a colorless crystalline solid with a melting point of 158-159℃, a vapor pressure of 0.033mPa at 25℃, and a solubility in water of 815mg /L at 25℃. It is readily soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and ethanol. Dipyridinium is a non-selective herbicide that works by interfering with the photosynthesis of weeds. It is mainly used for the control of shrubs and perennial weeds in non-cultivated areas such as railways, highways, and industrial sites, and can also be used for the control of annual weeds in economic crop fields such as citrus orchards and jackfruit orchards.

Mechanism of action

Dipyridinium blocks the synthesis of plant energy by inhibiting the electron transport chain in the photosynthesis of weeds (acting on the D1 protein of photosystem II), causing sensitive weeds to die due to energy exhaustion. Its site of action is similar to that of triazobenzene herbicides (such as atrazine), but its chemical structure belongs to the pyrimidine class. Dipyridinium can be absorbed through the root system and leaves and conducted within the plant, especially showing remarkable effects on perennial deep-rooted weeds.

Characteristics and Advantages

  • Broad-spectrum and highly effective: It is highly effective against grasses, broad-leaved weeds and shrubs, and is especially suitable for controlling resistant weeds such as horsehair grass and oxtail grass. The recommended dosage in citrus orchards is 1.6-3.2 kg/ha, and in non-cultivated areas, it can reach 5-15 kg/ha. The residual effect lasts for up to one growing season.

  • Environmental adaptability: Resistant to rain erosion, suitable for various soil types, and still active under high-temperature and drought conditions.

  • Low-toxicity and safe: The acute oral LD50 for rats is over 5000 mg/kg, which is non-irritating to the skin and eyes and meets the standards for environmentally friendly herbicides.

  • Flexible compounding: It is often compounded with dipramon, glyphosate, etc., to expand the spectrum of weed control and delay the development of resistance.

Precautions for Use

  • Application timing: It is recommended to carry out soil treatment before the weeds sprout or in the early growth stage. When applying after the seedlings emerge, ensure that the leaves of the weeds are fully in contact with the pesticide solution.

  • Resistance management: Avoid continuous single use. Different herbicides with different mechanisms of action (such as HPPD inhibitors or ALS inhibitors) should be rotated.

  • Environmental protection restrictions: Some countries have strict restrictions on its application near drinking water sources, and local regulations must be followed.
